The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate young British performers. Singers Joe McElderry, Ellie Goulding and DJ Ironik entertained the Royals, while young actors Tamsin Egerton and Daniel Kaluuya starred in a one-off performance of Romeo and Juliet, produced by the English National Ballet. Veteran actors Helen Mirren, Kevin Spacey and Sheila Hancock came along to support the nation's young blood, while culture ministers Jeremy Hunt and Ed Vaizey were all smiles for the cameras...just don't mention the arts cuts.

One of the unique aspects of Manchester's Mahler season is the inclusion in each of the concert programmes of a new work which has been inspired in some way by the music of Mahler. Lebanese composer BUSHRA El Turk heard her piece Mosaic played as part of Manchester Camerata's key contribution to the event Eternal Blue Horizons. How important is her Lebanese background?
